For generations, pastoralist women across northern Tanzania have played essential roles in their families and communities. Yet the decisions affecting land, livelihoods, education and natural resources have not always included their voices.
Pastoral Women’s Council believes that women are powerful agents of change when they have the knowledge, confidence and opportunity to participate in decision-making.
PWC works alongside women to strengthen leadership skills, increase awareness of rights and create opportunities for collective action. Women can organize around shared concerns, exchange knowledge and participate more actively in household, village and public decisions.
Leadership Starts Locally
Meaningful leadership does not always begin in a formal position. It can begin with a woman speaking up in a community meeting, participating in a decision about resources or helping other women understand their rights.
When women have opportunities to lead locally, their experience and priorities can become part of broader conversations about education, land, livelihoods and climate resilience.
Building Change Together
PWC’s approach is rooted in the belief that communities understand their own challenges best. By supporting women to organize, learn and lead, PWC helps strengthen the ability of communities to shape their own futures.
Women’s leadership is not only about creating opportunities for individual women. It is about building communities where more voices can participate in decisions that affect everyone.
